Hamburgers, fries, pizzas, and fried chicken are among the foods we love to binge on. Fast-food joints serving them make it easier for us to give in to our cravings. As we grow older, we realize that we can no longer enjoy these gastronomic delights the way we used to, because we have to watch out for the cholesterol in our diet. Otherwise, we are put in the danger zone for several cardiovascular diseases it may lead us to.

Cholesterol, it’s something you hear about a lot, but not something a lot of people understand very well. With all the talk about lipids and fats, LDL and HDL, it’s hard to know up from down and left from right when talking about cholesterol.
Chemically, cholesterol is classified as a sterol (a cross between a steroid and an alcohol) and it’s absolutely vital to our everyday existence. The body uses cholesterol to build and maintain cell membranes and to maintain proper membrane viscosity.
If all that sounds a little ‘out there’ just take away from it that cholesterol is a much needed compound in your body.
